A fun maternity session

This is a first for me. I had never done a maternity session before and I was extremely nervous as I was getting ready to do this. After viewing what seemed like hundreds of other photographers’ maternity photos, I was ready to sink or swim. We ended up not having a great setting outside and the time of day put the sun high in the sky. The deck was stacked against us. But, the show must go on.

We took a quite a few outside and then went in for a few low-key shots. The low-key photos (black background) were done with only one off-camera light. The light was provided by a Canon 580 EX Speedlight with a 15″ softbox on a stand. Here are a few pictures from Hollie and Stephen’s session.

Beautiful Lake Bienvenu and Swamp

Just off Interstate 10 a couple of miles past the Sabine River bridge in Southwest Louisiana lies a beautiful blackwater swamp adjacent to Lake Bienvenu. This area is actually behind the Louisiana Welcome Center just west of the city of Vinton, Louisiana. I am sure many travelers through our state don’t realize as they stop to rest, they are within yards of one of the most idyllic scenes for which our area of the country is known.

The first picture is of the Louisiana sign beside the lake. The second is the swamp just behind the sign.

More Sunset pictures at Prien Lake Park

The other evening while on the way to the store I swung by Prien Lake Park and took some pictures of the sun setting over the lake. Also the last picture is of one the blooms on our gardenia bush in our back yard. This obviously is a hardy plant seeing as it has been transplanted in different areas more than once.

South Louisiana is a beautiful place. With a wide variety of locales and scenery, it’s not difficult to happen upon some incredible sites. Last night while at the Louisiana Welcome Center west of Vinton, I took some night pictures around the water and some around the rest area.

A fun family shoot

If you’ve been following my blog, you’re probably wondering why you are seeing yet another change in the look of the layout. Well, I’ve been looking for a layout that is wide enough to allow the images to be displayed larger. I don’t know if I’ll stick with this one, but hopefully it will work.

Here are some great pictures of a great family. It started out as a child shoot and then mom got a few pictures taken. They were in for the weekend for Mother’s Day. Dad is in medical school in New Orleans. He is studying for his first Board exams to be taken in about three weeks. Our prayers are with you. We know you will do well.

Lake Charles Civic Center

I just love early evening lighting. The following is an image of the Lake Charles Civic Center from the north side taken some time ago. Notice the different colors of the surrounding lighting and how it adds to the mood of the picture.

Oriental Lilly Pictures

The wonders of God’s creation. I took the opportunity and braved strong winds today and got a few pictures of a beautiful lilly from our son and daughter-in-law’s garden. With a little help, I got the reflectors set up (every once in a while the wind would take the foam core we were using as a reflector and sling it across the yard, stand and all), and even had to hold the stem to keep the plant still. The pics were taken in the lulls between strong gusts. Oh, and did I mention the mosquitoes?

Whitney & Eve’s Formal Photo Session

Last night marked Prom night for many schools here in Lake Charles, and young men and women dressed to the nines were all over the place. My subjects for this photo session were no exception. We grabbed quite a few great images before they headed off to their dinner reservations. The camera really loved these two and their beautiful dresses.
